SMARTS would not be SMARTS without our community. Over the past 33 years, we’ve offered unique programming to get your child thinking outside of the box whether it’s been through exciting drama improvisation, STEAM engineering challenges, or hands-on music making-- And we’ve loved every single minute of it. Now during this uncertain time, we are asking you to think outside the box with us.
Because you and your family’s safety is our number one priority, we wanted to find the best possible way to offer the creative programming you know and love without the possibility of risking your health. So, without further ado, we present Virtual Summer SMARTS, a fun-filled and interactive multi-arts morning with your favorite instructors in real-time. Throughout the month of July, we will be engaging in hands-on projects led by our amazing team of teachers. While we wish we could be with you in-person this summer, we are so excited to bring all the SMARTS fun right to your home! Let’s dive into the details…
We are offering 2 different ways to have the Virtual SMARTS experience:
July 6-July 31, Monday- Friday, 9:30-11:30
Our virtual multi-arts program consists of two 45 minute morning sessions that will rotate through 5 creative disciplines: creative writing, movement/dance, drama/theatre, percussion/music, and visual arts/design. Between the two sessions we will have a 15 minute break allowing students to eat a snack and get ready for their second activity of the day. Your child will be placed in one of three groups based on age that will have a dedicated zoom room link, so there will be no need to log out and in again between sessions. Any child signed up for the multi-arts program will also be able to register for any of our afternoon specialty workshops free of charge.
Every afternoon we will be offering age-specific workshops led by our SMARTS teachers, individuals from our local arts community, or SMARTS alumni. Each workshop will run for 1 hour and be open to anyone interested. Registration for each workshop will be separate and the fee will be based on frequency throughout the 4 weeks.
For all of our virtual programming, we are asking you to provide your child with a quiet space for the duration of the virtual program and the workshops. As much as possible (based on their age), and unless they ask for help, please allow them to participate in these classes on their own without parental involvement.
The weekly schedule
Virtual Summer SMARTS will bring a fun, social learning experience into your home. Through daily morning activities in creative writing, movement/dance, drama/theatre, percussion/music, and visual arts/design, your child/ren will exercise their imagination, creativity and critical thinking skills as they develop and practice virtual social fluency in a safe, engaging environment.
With adult assistance as needed, each child will log into their assigned Zoom Room with a link. We suggest you use either a chromebook, laptop or desktop computer. In addition to morning activity sessions, there will be afternoon Specialty events open to all.
We have created a weekly schedule, Monday through Friday, that includes two sessions a week in each arts area for each group and an option for an afternoon Specialty workshop, age specifications TBD. Specialty workshops will be listed soon. Registration will be open to all. If you are registered for the Multi-Arts Program the fee for the workshops is included in the tuition you paid. If you are not registered for the Multi-Arts Program, there will be a fee to participate in the workshops that can be paid online at the time of registration.
See the link below to your child’s schedule. (Will be posted soon)
