PROGRAMS - Overview
| "The arts teach young people how to learn by giving them the first step: the desire to learn. The arts provide unparalleled opportunities for learning, enabling young people to reach for and attain higher levels of achievement." — Champions of Change, President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities |
SMARTS programs and initiatives are comprehensive and
educationally grounded.
The SMARTS Community includes students, artists and arts educators,
school administrators and teachers, local cultural organizations,
parents, and the southeastern Massachusetts communities at large.
The students.... They are the force! Our programs provide them with a
path to self-awareness, encouragement to think independently, creatively
and reflectively, and an opportunity to work collaboratively with their
peers.
The artists.... They are the mentors and mirrors. They show us a way to
see things. They creatively work towards independent thought and
expression. They do it, they share it, and they live it.
The arts educators.... They are the messengers. They provide us with
methods and techniques to access the power of the arts.
