and older musicians. The Wind Symphony is a partnership between SMARTS
and Wheaton College Music Department.

a dynamic opportunity to learn songs and choreography from some of the
greatest American musicals produced.
Visual Arts
Touring Art Exhibit,
for all SMARTS middle school art departments: SMARTS middle school
teachers select up to ten pieces of art work to be included in an art
exhibit at the Attleboro Museum before the exhibit is put on touring
panels that go to each SMARTS middle school for a one week display.
Programs from Previous Years:
Deaf Arts Experience was an interdisciplinary arts
program for Deaf students with ASL as part of the SMARTS Summer
Institute. It allowed the students an opportunity to work under the
guidance of professional artists in creative writing, dance, drama,
music and visual arts.
Fall and Spring Showcase was an opportunity to
introduce children, teachers, PTO's, and local Cultural Councils to a
showcase of performers that use the arts to reinforce concepts in
curriculum. We brought six performers - from musicians, solo performers,
and ensemble troupes to Attleboro middle schools. 700 children attended
as well as invited PTO'S and local Council representatives from 10
towns.
Southeastern Massachusetts Stage Band is a
collaboration between SMARTS and the Mansfield Music and Art Society
(MMAS). The ensemble is open to musicians ages 14-23 that play strings,
percussion, winds, brass, keyboards, synths, or guitars.
World Beat Discovery Project, Taught by master percussionist Rick Morin
of Innerythms (www.innerythms.com). Provides children in grades
3-5 in the SMARTS member districts with a music enrichment program in
world beat and percussion through in-school classes and assembly
programs. Each participating school will also receive a percussion kit.
This project is funded by the Francis R. Dewing Foundation.
